Blog for Matt Thogerson

I would just like to congratulate everyone involved in the making of Heart Break Break In as part of the 48 Hour Film Project. It was indeed a crowd favorite and a resounding success. Though I am technically still sleep deprived--a whole two weeks later, no less--I really enjoyed the experience...again.

Additionally I would like to organize a large scale ColCrush.Com promotional campaign pretty soon--the more troupe members that participate: the better. I'm thinking viral... and the only antidote is more COLCRUSH.COM! - Matt Thogerson

Blog for Jon Fairhurst

Over the past year I've been looking for examples of other weekly Webisode series. There aren't many. Sure, there's AskaNinja.com, but that's a vlog, not an action/comedy/drama narrative. Then there's a bunch of YouTube stuff - you know, people getting hit in the nuts with Mentos explosions. And, of course, there are network shows and movies from Big Media.

But what about weekly Webisodes? It would be cool if there were a whole slew of 'em. Every Monday you could check Colonel Crush and a few other sites. On Tuesday, you'd check some others. Eventually, we would have a new form of appointment TV for every day of the week.

Well, recently I found the coolest of all Webisode shows. It's called Sanctuary, and can be found at http://sanctuaryforall.com

Sanctuary is a bi-weekly sci-fi series starring Amanda Tapping of Stargate SG-1 fame. She plays Dr. Magnus, who hunts down evil beings with her daughter. To keep costs down, they use lots of 3d models as backgrounds. Expect the models to be used in future Sanctuary video games.

You can view the Webisodes free on their site, and download standard definition Webisodes for $1.99 or high definition for $2.49.

If you know of any other regular narrative Webisodes, let us know. I'd like to see the Webisode format gain a critical mass.

All hail the Weekly Webisode! - Jon Fairhurst

Blog for Blazing Broccoli {by Jon Fairhurst)

While checking to see if Google picked up our movie yet, I found this story: http://www.poe-news.com/stories.php?poeurlid=9822

Watch out for the diesel fuel, Brock! - Jon Fairhurst

Blog for Nathan Fairhurst

Whew, so I just finished Blazing Broccoli, I'll post it on the dot at noon. I pretty much sat in front of my computer for 12 hours straight doing the special effects for this crazy short. And I'm not exaggerating, 7 pm to 8 am. I of course ate and went to the bathroom, but jeez, take that out and you're at about 12.

Anyway, it's been a crazy night of special effects. I'll post some cool tidbits about them later once the film is up. - Nathan Fairhurst

Blog for Snakes on a Car - Movie {by Nathan Fairhurst)

This microfilm was actually an idea from way back--you know, when SoaP was about to come out, and this parody would have been timely--but we just never found the proper time for it. Really we never had time to film it, instead we just stayed up all night one evening--not kidding, till about 7 am--in my barn/studio. Just Matt, Jeff and I running everything. Who needs a crew!? To be honest, we were so tired I'm amazed this came out so good. Jeff was sleepy enough to drop my camera and my 300 watt light bulb. But I don't really need that bulb anyway. It's only like 10 bucks to replace and impossible to find. No problem. Curse you, Jeff!!!

Anyway, I also just updated the film. The flash encoder we have always really darkens the video, so if you saw it on monday or tuesday and had trouble making out the details, watch it again, it's brighter now.

PS. Carmel Shmarmel and Chocolate Bocolate is a joke on Matt Thogerson who tried to order a drink called an Almond Rocha Mocha at a Starbucks in Victoria--this drink apparently does exist at another coffee chain he frequents--which of course they did not have. We all bothered him about this nonexistant coffee with a ridiculous name and our dear friend Krista made up some drinks that he should try ordering next time: Caramel Sharmel and Chocolate Bocolate. And though it is never mentioned, Matt's character Trent is, of course, drinking an Almond Rocha Mocha.
- Nathan Fairhurst

Blog for Snakes on a Car - Movie {by Jon Fairhurst)

I just added the script for the Snakes on a Car - Movie. I appreciate it even more after going line by line and watching how the characters' emotions go up and down. And up. And up. And down.

So, does anybody actually read these scripts? If nothing else, it gives Google some interesting things to find...

http://colonelcrush.com/movie/index/00190003#15

- Jon Fairhurst

Blog for Nathan Fairhurst

Okay, so I totally lied before when I said it would be up by noon as scheduled. Sorry. But good news it's done! Well... except for the render and flash encoding. But you can expect it before 6 pm. That's only six hours late, c'mon.

Now I'm going to shower, cause it's been a while... See how dedicated I am? - Nathan Fairhurst

Blog for Jon Fairhurst

I FINALLY got the audio done and uploaded. The Internet has been down at my house all weekend, so things were ...interesting.

But, the movie is great(!), and the sound editing went really well. The music isn't exactly Beethoven, but it really underlines the moods without distracting from the picture. That's the idea, right?

Now, let's see if Nathan can download it, render it and upload it by noon. (3:1 odds against... I think he might be asleep... ;) ) - Jon Fairhurst
